Snoqualmie Falls, Washington

Location, Fall City, WA

I went to mass this morning at 9:30 in North Bend which is about 5 miles from the RV Park. This was also the day that a new priest was introduced to the parish. The towns here a small and so the parish is also small and is one of three administered by the same priest.

After mass, Clyda and I took a drive to Snoqualmie Falls which is on the road to North Bend. It was a beautiful day so many people were out to take in the nice weather. There is a very nice overlook to the falls as well as a steep ½ mile path to the base of the falls. The dogwoods were in bloom as well as many other flowers along the pathways. This site is provided by the local power company and maintained by them. Next to it is the Salish Lodge which overlooks the falls. It is well worth the stop especially on a nice day.

We drove to North Bend to see the Railroad museum which is actually a lot of engines and rolling stock parked on sidings alone Railroad Ave in the middle of town. The original depot serves as a depot for the weekend trains which run 4 times a day in the summer and take about an hour per trip. The active engine is a diesel electric with a mixture of cars for passengers. The fee is $9 for adults and $8 for seniors.

We walked down the line to see all of the old engines of which there are about 8 steamers and several electrics none of which run. In fact, all are in very sad condition. There is one 3 truck Shay and one Heisler in the group. There is also one steam engine which appears to run but only for special occasions as it is used in the brochures.

After looking at the trains we stopped in a small sandwich shop where I had a very nice turkey sandwich with cranberries and walnuts. Very tasty.
